What is The Voice of Culture?
The Voice of Culture is a weekly newspaper printed in English and Tetun. The newspaper aims to explore and share the culture of Timor-Leste. Put together by a small team, the newspaper began life mid 2008. What many of Dili’s newspaper lack, however, is a website, which is why the team behind The Voice of Culture set up an online version of the newspaper.
With a focus on travel and culture in Timor-Leste, The Voice of Culture website is similar to the newspaper, but appears only in English language. Every week the website brings readers an in-depth feature story. It may be from travel to one the districts, a news story or else a story more local to Dili. This is the story that you can see on the home page in the Featured Story section.
As well as the weekly feature, The Voice of Culture also strives to provide smaller stories, such as news or information about restaurants and bars in Dili, as well as general information about Dili and Timor-Leste.
The idea behind the website is to build up the content with the smaller stories while providing a good, weekly read in the form of the feature.
