The Jesus statue in Dili

The Jesus status is one of the most poignant images of Dili. Stood atop a hill in the east of Dili, you can see the statue from all over. The statue was given as a gift to the Timorese by the Indonesians, although some say that the Indos built it to deliberately face Jakarta. The statue is 20 meters tall and to get there requires a bit of trek, ideal if you have a bicycle or enjoy running. The journey along the beach is peaceful and one of Dili’s highlights.

Up the steps to the statue you pass representations of the stations of the cross. The view from the top, particularly at sunrise and sunset, is fantastic and makes for some great photos ops.
