Who is Liga Hau?

Has anyone else in Timor-Leste been receiving strange calls and SMS messages? From a phone identified as “CallMe” I received a message saying, “Liga hau / Call Me / Liga-me : +6707333506.” Then within a couple of minutes the same number rang me and hung up after a couple of seconds. Obviously this as a ploy to get me to call back, but what does it all mean?

Funnily enough, another blogger wrote about this last week, only this blogger actually called the number and had an odd conversation with what would appear to be a Timorese man. This blogger was receiving the same SMS message every day. The conversation went like this:

Blogger: “Hello!”
Dude: “Bondia. Hello?”
Blogger: “Hello?”
Dude: “Hello?”
Blogger: “Why do you keep texting me?”
Dude: “What?”
Blogger: “Why do you keep TEXTING ME?!”
Dude: “Why you calling me?”
Blogger: “Because you just texted me, asking me to call you! Liga Hau! Liga Hau!”
Dude: “I sorry. I don’t speak English so well.”
Blogger: “I don’t care. Stop texting me.”
Dude: “Why you call?”
Blogger: “…”

And yet the messages continue. Does anyone know what’s going on?
